AskMoritz

The record

Privacy Policy

Last updated 3 July 2026

AskMoritz is built to hear your case, not to harvest it. This policy explains what we collect, why, who processes it on our behalf, and the control you keep over it.

1. Who we are

AskMoritz ("AskMoritz," "we," "us") is an independent iOS application operated by a solo developer. For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR, AskMoritz is the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us at theo@proudforus.com.

2. What we collect

We collect only what the app needs to function.

Account information

When you create an account we collect your email address and a display name. If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google. Your password, when you use email sign-in, is handled by Firebase Authentication and is never visible to us.

Content you create

The heart of the app: the appeals you submit (the text of your question or situation), the verdicts returned to you, any precedent notes you record, and your Chambers preferences. Please avoid including sensitive personal details or the personal data of other people in your appeals — write only what you're comfortable filing.

Diagnostic & technical data

Our infrastructure providers automatically process limited technical data needed to run and secure the service — for example a device identifier, IP address, app version, and basic error and reliability signals. We use App Check to confirm requests come from a genuine copy of the app.

Location — what we do not collect

AskMoritz does not request or collect your location. The "Moritz's Lunch" feature searches for venues around a single, fixed office coordinate in Frankfurt using Apple's on-device MapKit search. It never reads your GPS, and the app requests no location permission.

3. How we use it

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising or third-party marketing.

4. AI processing of appeals

To generate a verdict, the text of your appeal (together with your relevant Precedent and Chambers settings) is sent to Anthropic, PBC, which operates the Claude AI model that composes Moritz's rulings. Anthropic processes this content on our behalf to return the verdict and, under its commercial terms, does not use it to train its models. Verdicts are produced by an automated system, may be inaccurate, and are provided for entertainment only.

5. Service providers

We rely on a small number of trusted processors:

Each provider processes data only to deliver its part of the service, under its own privacy commitments.

6. How information is shared

We share your information only with the service providers above, only as needed to run AskMoritz. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of users, or in connection with a business transfer. We never sell it.

7. Legal bases (GDPR)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of a contract (to provide the app you asked for), your consent (which you can withdraw at any time, for example by deleting your account), and our legitimate interests in keeping the service secure and functioning.

8. Retention & deletion

We keep your account and content until you delete them. You can erase everything from inside the app: open Chambers → Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes your profile, appeals, verdicts, and precedent, and deletes your authentication record. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. Backups and provider logs may persist for a short period before being overwritten in the ordinary course.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can exercise most of these directly in the app, or contact us at theo@proudforus.com and we will respond within a reasonable time. EU/EEA and UK users also have the right to lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority.

10. International transfers

Your account and content are stored in the EU (europe-west1). Some providers — notably Anthropic and Apple — may process data on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, these transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

11. Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Access to your content is governed by Firebase security rules that tie records to your authenticated account, and requests are attested with App Check. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to keep the surface area small.

12. Children

AskMoritz is not directed to children. You must be at least 13 years old (or 16 where required by local law) to use it. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children; if you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we'll revise the date at the top of this page, and for material changes we'll provide a more prominent notice. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.

14. Contact

Questions, requests, or concerns about your privacy? Write to theo@proudforus.com and we'll get back to you.

This policy describes AskMoritz's data practices in good faith and in plain language. It does not form part of any verdict and is not legal advice.
